Nerves are essential to a great performance. They create adrenaline which races through our bodies so we can think more quickly and speak more fluently.
Anxiety about performing becomes excessive if those nerves reach terrifying levels or occur with more frequency or severity.
Performance Anxiety Example
Teddy was an actor who performed on the stage as well as on TV. He hoped to make it into film acting. He had always felt nervous before performances but recently felt that his nerves had spiralled out of control. He had started vomiting before performances and shaking with uncontrollable fear.
